My poetry taste

 ترے وعدے پر جئے ہم تو یہ جان جھوٹ جانا

کہ خوشی سے مر نہ جاتے اگر اعتبار ہوتا

The speaker says that he lived on the basis of the beloved’s promise, only to later realize that the promise itself was false. He then reflects that, had the promise been trustworthy, he would have died willingly and joyfully in reliance upon it. The verse highlights the intensity of emotional dependence on the beloved’s word and the deep pain that arises when such trust is betrayed, a theme that is characteristic of Mirza Ghalib’s poetry.
